Digital audio I/O in Liquid Pro break-out box
A little-known fact is that that the Avid Liquid Pro box supports not just analog audio, but also digital audio I/O.
Here are the details:
Digital outputs
Avid Liquid Pro can output the following digital audio formats: • S/PDIF audio: 2 channels stereo mix. • ADAT audio: 8 channels: 1 to 6 for surround channels, 7-8 for headphones mix. These digital audio formats are available on two physical connectors: • Cinch/RCA output connector, labeled “Coaxial”. • Toslink fiber optics connector, labeled “Optical”.
Both physical connectors always carry the same digital audio output format.
To switch between S/PDIF and ADAT formats go to: Edit > Control Panel > Site > System Settings > Inputs/Outputs > Audio Outputs > Digital, and double-click the required format. Digital inputs Avid Liquid Pro can capture two channels of audio in either S/PDIF or ADAT format. There is no need to select the required digital audio format ADAT or S/PDIF; Avid Liquid will automatically detect the incoming audio source.
To switch between optical and coaxial inputs go to: Control Panel > Player Settings > Connection, and select either Liquid Pro:Optical* or Liquid Pro:Coaxial*, referring to the two connectors.
* Please note that in earlier software versions, these connections were called “Liquid Pro:SPDIF” (for optical) and “Liquid Pro:AES” (for coaxial).
